I have a new album out on Box Emissions. It’s all there digitally now, and I’ll have CDs in July.
The name comes from the idea of using the term ‘colloquialism’ as a verb, which is how I try to approach making this stuff. Finding a language and phrasing in that which isn’t formal, isn’t always exactly correct but conveys it’s meaning anyway.
I started this at the start of the year, wanting to break the habit of taking a very long time to finish something. I wanted to be quicker and more critical, and I reckon I’ve done that. I was going to wait until the CDs were here to release it, but I thought I’d let go of that idea and let it sit online before it starts life as a real artefact. Part of my logic there is that it seems unwise to do it as I am, maybe dulling interest from people who might listen, but I deeply dislike the idea of acting tactically with this stuff. It’s niche music with a small pool of people who’ll hear it, I’d rather do it how I feel.
I won’t try describe the sound of it, as that embarrasses me, luckily it’s all there for the listening anyway.
I made a video for each track, partially so that I could put it all on YouTube, and because I like the idea of having something to focus on that isn’t, say, a phone, while listening.
All the videos are here:
The album was mastered by Pentti Dassum.
